Hungry Filmmakers + Just Food + People's Garden NYC

A few very cool events are coming up quickly... Details below. I am going to try to check them out. Let's not complain about what isn't, because if you do that is just what you'll get. If you are open and you seek it... you'll find there is allot of really good stuff going on- everywhere! Let's get involved!

HUNGRY FILMAKERS
Hungry Filmmakers aims to showcase the work of filmmakers who are dedicated to furthering sustainable food dialogue in a social, friendly environment that allows for deeper discussion. Offering viewers a sampling rather than a full screening of each, the program includes ten-minute excerpts of each of the featured films.

What: Screen and discuss a sampling of food-conscious flicks; complimentary snacks and sips provided by Jimmy’s No. 43, Lagunitas Brewing Co., T. Edward Wines, and others. (Note: BYO cup.)

Why: Proceeds go to Just Food, a nonprofit dedicated to providing NYC residents access to fresh, seasonal, sustainably grown food. Daniel Bowman Simon will be there to talk about the new petition for a People's Garden NYC at City Hall.

When: Tuesday, February 23rd, 7-10 p.m.

Where: Anthology Film Archives, 32 Second Ave., @ 2nd St. (212-505-5181). Tickets online at brownpapertickets.com. $15 each. Please note: when you purchase tickets it says the event is going to be at some other place- but it is going to be at Anthology Film Archives.

JUST FOOD
What: Just Food presents our 10th annual CSA in NYC Conference!

Why: The CSA (Community Sponsored Agriculture) in NYC Conference is an opportunity for the CSA organizers, members and enthusiasts from around the city to come together with local farmers for a day of learning, networking and fun! The Conference will offer skill-building and policy workshops ranging from CSA trends and management to food policy and food justice topics. In addition to the workshops, there will be a panel discussion with CSA farmers, where attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about what it means to be a CSA farmer.

The Conference will be followed by a CSA EXPO where members, farmers and other NYC organizations will share information and expertise on growing your CSA and enjoy socializing over complimentary wine, beer and cheese.

When: Sunday, February 28, 2010

Where: Teachers College, Columbia University.

PEOPLE'S GARDEN NYC

The People's Garden NYC are collecting signatures for a petition addressed To Mayor Michael Bloomberg, requesting a vegetable garden be planted in front of City Hall. Please help them out and sign the petition! Check out the cute video they put together below.

(Rendering of what it will look like!)

"We, the undersigned people of New York City, respectfully request that a vegetable garden be planted in front of City Hall.

This garden will represent New Yorkers' commitment to education, public service, healthy eating, and environmental stewardship. This garden will be tended by NYC public school students, in collaboration with the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation and our region's talented gardeners and farmers. The harvest will be donated to a nearby food pantry to feed the hungry.

This garden will represent the vision of a more sustainable, livable City for all New Yorkers, and will contribute to achieving the intents of PLANYC by 2030."
